World Poker Tour explained
The World Poker Tour was formed back in 2002 and first aired on American television in the spring of 2003. The television show made its debut on the first of February of that year and was aptly named the battle of champion’s tournament. The show found itself competing with the coverage of the world super bowl and received modest viewer numbers as it was largely unpopular compared to the competition. This television show and the continued broadcast of it since its incorporation has contributed largely to the overall poker boom that has been seen across the world. Since its creation the world poker tour show has steadily seen its numbers increase from year to year with more poker players than ever tuning in as well as the new generation of players who have been drawn towards the sport.
The show was first hosted by a well known female presenter who served the purpose of drawing many more viewers to the show but in November 2009 the show was acquired by a well known poker brand and the make up of the show was changed accordingly. The name of the show was changed and the main emphasis of the show was to focus on the European side of the WPT. One of the key implementations to the world poker tour television show was the pocket camera which was the most revolutionary creations seen in the sport to date. In the past the show had lost many viewers due to the fact that nobody watching the show could see what cards any player was holding until the cards were laid on the table which for most of the viewers was very frustrating.
The pocket camera changed all this by placing a small digital camera in each of the players pockets aimed at the player’s cards providing the television audience with a view of these cards which made the game so much more interesting. The viewers were now able to follow the players bluffing and other tactics where they had never been able to before and this was very interesting for every viewer as it provided a better insight into the game. One of the main advantages of the world poker tour is that it is open to all players from every region in the world by the means of the players buying into the game.
The buy in price varies from two thousand five hundred dollars to twenty five thousand dollars which was very different to many tournaments as for a lot of other tournaments of this type the players would have to be world ranked and so on. Another way players could enter the world poker tour was for them to win one of the many satellite tournaments which are played around the world frequently. The rise of the world poker tour has been astronomical and is continuing to be more popular each and every season with millions of more players being drawn to the game of poker each year. Poker for many is now the number one source of gaming and is challenging casinos all over the world in terms of revenue and popularity.
